When the Season Changes
When the season started to change, ghosts brought a
Chill from the yard and the fence to the houses.

We were drinking chocolate milk together
A cartoon shimmered on the plasma screen.

My thoughts lingered about a dark lady,
Amongst the morning birds, singing carefree.

I bit down on chocolate candy
It swirled, melting inside my mouth
Some days I'd rather not have gone to the

Store, but I felt closed in and empty too
I was supposed to stay awake for now,

And I always went back for sweets at night
I'd wait for a girl to find me, and
I always went back looking for her.
