A Hymn of Faith and Sacrifice
He sits down and wants some
Certain, spicy chicken.

The child stays; his pants
Are dirty—he listens
Intently, deciding
Not to contradict his
Sister, who wants to go

To the sacred and blessed
Cathedral; to take the
Child, so small, mostly
To honor and praise God,

Like the polyester
Before redemptive nails.

She would have to pray that
Day and would give more, an
Offering to the church,
Then she'd wait in line at
The mystic aisle too.

There were many others
Traveling that hot day
It was a pleasure to
Gather under the sun.
